National Apprenticeship Week 2021 is here, and what better time to reflect on the value apprenticeships have for people, communities and employers.
The annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships will shine a light on the amazing work being done by employers and apprentices across the country.
The week will also recognise how employers of all sizes have stepped up to the challenge during this unprecedented time.
This year’s theme is ‘Build the Future’, aiming to encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships help individuals to build the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career.
Remtek Systems Apprenticeships
We’re delighted to announce that we will again be supporting National Apprenticeship Week. We currently have one apprentice and over the years have successfully delivered 15 apprenticeships.
Our apprenticeship scheme is renowned throughout the region with a range of benefits including:
- A rigorous training programme
- Generous salary (as we don’t believe in the minimum apprenticeship salary)
- 6 monthly reviews to ensure that each apprentice is enjoying the scheme
Remtek Director, John Farrar commented “The apprenticeship schemes have played a big part in the success of Remtek. We have had many apprentices at the company and many have stayed and achieved success with us.
Our very own General Manager, Nick Dalli started off as an apprentice. We are glad to be offering employment throughout the region and helping young people to achieve success.”
Nick Dalli
Nick Dalli started his Remtek apprenticeship over 20 years ago with an NVQ Level 3 in IT Installation of Hardware & Software. Talking to us about his journey Nick explained that he progressed from a Build’s Technician to Onsite Engineer and Setup Technician at the age of just 19.
After five years of being a Setup Technician Nick started to take an interest in training students on how to adapt the technology to their daily study life. This was an area of Remtek that needed accommodating, and so Nick studied and completed a course in “Train the trainer” and became assistive technology certified in all AT with yearly updates.
During his time as a Trainer and Setup Technician Nick was promoted to Service Manager, to ensure the service department was running correctly and efficiently.
This new role was created to ensure that repairs were completed on time, with ongoing communication back and forth to students, keeping them updated.
In 2017 Nick was promoted yet again to General Manager enabling him to learn a new side of the business, manage all internal operations and make improvements where applicable.
Nick successfully completed Level 3 and 4 in Leadership & Management explaining “Many things on this course I had touched base on during my time in all the other roles at Remtek, including disciplinaries and the harsh side of management, however they are all important to a successful position within the company.”
Speaking about his time with Remtek Nick said “My time with Remtek has been fantastic. I am in year 21 with the company from a 16-year-old boy to a 36-year-old man with responsibilities, so as employers go I can confidentially say they are brilliant.
Remtek is a tight unit and when an employee comes along you know if they are Remtek Material and that’s why they’re hired. It has a warm family feel and this is the drive to success behind the scenes. This is how I was taught, and hopefully other employees see that through myself as I did with John and Mark.”
Nick’s aspiration is to progress onto a Director role (watch out John) and continue to deliver Remtek’s business development strategy. Good Luck Nick!
Gabriel Karikari
Gabriel Karikari joined the team on an ‘IT Infrastructure’ apprenticeship and has since progressed on to become an ‘On-Site Engineer and Assistive Software Trainer’. He explained “Working for Remtek has been a massive addition to my IT career. I have obtained qualifications and certifications for a vast array of software provided by Remtek and progressed from an onsite Technician to a certified Assistive Software Trainer.”
Gabriel highlighted the importance of providing a sense of relief to students struggling with using their IT equipment and promoted how rewarding his job with Remtek has been: “My time working for Remtek has been phenomenal. Remtek have provided support and guidance when needed very efficiently throughout both my Apprenticeship and my time being a full employee. I’ve also been given the opportunity to expand my knowledge via completing various certifications on software provided to students.”
Well done Gabriel!
Continuing to promote apprenticeships
In 2016 Remtek Systems was awarded Salford College apprentice employer. This prestigious achievement is just the start as it continues to attract new talent to guarantee the future of the business. Well done everyone!
