Remtek Systems is once again celebrating International Women's Day and this year’s theme which is #ChooseToChallenge: a challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change.
We can all choose to challenge gender bias or inequality and seek out and celebrate women's achievements.
International Women's Day is all about celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, worldwide. Celebrated every year on March 8th the awareness day sees women coming together through events, campaigns, donations and celebrations.
International Women's Day at Remtek Systems
This year we’re celebrating 2 of our own fantastic, female members of staff; Administration Supervisor, Melissah Cooney and Business Administrator, Daria Watt.
Born and bred in Salford, Melissah is the middle child of three girls. She shared with us “all the women in my family are independent and strong-minded individuals. In my spare time I am usually spending this watching drag queens, musicals with my car Ru or making up orders for my small craft business I have with my best friend.”
Melissah has been with Remtek Systems for over 4 years. After only one year as part of the administration team, Melissah’s potential shone through and she was promoted to Administration Supervisor. She has completed various courses in leading and managing teams and is looking forward to progressing even further with Remtek Systems.
Melissah explained “My time at Remtek has taught me so much over the years. Here at Remtek we are in a very fortunate position to help and assist students with disabilities and to make a difference in their learning journey and I am very proud to be part of the team. Remtek is a very supportive employer and for me, Remtek has invested a lot of time and resources into my learning and supporting me as a Supervisor.
I think gender equality in a workplace is very important and I can confidently say being the only female supervisor within our organisation that I am treated as equal as my peers and my voice is always heard.”
21-year-old, Daria Watt joined Remtek Systems in 2018 as an Admin Apprentice. After qualifying in Level 2 she is now a full-time member of staff and is keen to expand her knowledge base and move up the ladder.
Daria described her time at Remtek for us; “Being an employee at Remtek is great fun, the staff are all lovely and we are like family. Remtek has helped me to learn new skills and guided me through my apprenticeship. The management team has always been supportive, especially with my Diabetes.”
Daria loves going for walks and going on holidays, seeing the world. Let’s hope the pandemic is coming to an end soon so she can continue with her travels. Well done both!
Here at Remtek we’re getting involved in International Women's Day and choosing to challenge the industry in which we operate. We want all businesses and professionals to get involved in equality for women and in particular those female students with learning difficulties and disabilities in progressing with their studies.
